About Manhattan Prep LSAT

Manhattan Prep was founded by Yale graduate Zeke Vanderhoek who was also part of the Teach for America program.  He built Manhattan Prep by recruiting the best of the best teachers; only those who scored in the 99th percentile with a plethora of teaching experience are allowed to become Manhattan Prep instructors.  Manhattan Prep offers a variety of test prep such as in-person classes and online lessons.  The goal of Manhattan Prep is to prepare students for their future academic endeavors, in whatever way is best for the student.

Basics

Manhattan Prep LSAT offers a variety of class forms for their students.  All classes are taught by their selectively hand picked teachers.  Manhattan Prep allows students to attend the first session of any class offered for free to see if it’s the correct fit.  Classes are offered both in person and online to accommodate students who learn better in person versus those who have busy schedules and need flexible test prep.  Their most flexible course is the Interact LSAT Course which is strictly self-paced interactive videos.  The Live LSAT Courses are the most popular.  They allow students to attend live lectures either in person, or from the comfort of their own home or office.  The Private Tutoring sessions are the most personalized form of instruction.  These sessions allow students to work with a tutor to identify weaknesses and strengths, and develop a plan to accomplish whatever their LSAT goals may be.

One of the unique aspects of Manhattan Prep is the LSAT CrunchTime course offered.  Most LSAT companies focus on longer term prep (ie 3 months or longer).  However, Manhattan Prep offers a last minute review in the months before each exam to help boost students’ confidence.  The LSAT Interact is also a unique option for students who feel they need help in one of the three sections (logic games, logical reasoning, reading comprehension), yet feel confident in the others.  Skills for test taking for individual topics can be honed instead of unnecessarily paying for prep on sections students already feel comfortable with.  Manhattan Prep utilizes the newest research in teaching theory to ensure their students are receiving the best LSAT prep possible.

    The course was great and allowed me to increase my score by 14 points from my diagnostic. Manhattan Prep even allows you to take the first class for free so you can decide if it’s right for you. The weekly “homework” helped me stay on a schedule and my instructor gave me personalized advice in and outside of the weekly class time.

    I tried the Manhattan free review and I was very satisfied with it, it provided a great and detailed explanations for all of the questions. It also tell us the difficulty level of the questions for LR which made me so proud when I would answer correctly a "hard" question. I enjoyed taking the prep tests and I've seen myself improve more and more using this course.

    I utilized Manhattan Prep's free online resources, as well as their free initial in-person prep class, to help prepare for the LSAT. I had already taken the LSAT and was looking for resources to help me view problems and approach the test with fresh eyes so that I could be more strategic and efficient as I moved through the test. Manhattan Prep's free LSAT prep hours were extremely helpful, especially for the reading comprehension and logical reasoning sections. Having already studied for months, I had forgotten certain basics and tricks that would make my approach much more effective. Manhattan Prep's free LSAT prep hours online, as well as the free 3-hour in-person class session, helped remind me of the basics of a given stimulus and remember what my "job" was. There is great power in examining the foundations of this test and evaluating the basic elements of a given problem. Focusing on this aspect helped me gain the confidence I needed to tackle each problem with consistency and efficiency and ultimately increase my score by four points.

Take care and effort to express yourself fully and accurately throughout the entire application and to illuminate the spirit of who you are and what you hope to achieve through the law. Applications are much more than your scores, transcripts, and resume bullets -- they are about telling your story in a way that makes the admissions officer want to put your application down and immediately meet you for coffee to learn more about you. Remember that admissions officers are looking for humans they want to join and contribute to their community. What inspires you? What ideas and perspectives will you bring to the law school and broader community? What path have you taken to get to this point, and what path do you intend to take after law school, armed with a law degree? Aside from interviews you will hopefully receive invitations for, this is your last big push to get into the law school that is right for and exciting to you, so give it your all!

    Manhattan Prep has a ton of free-online resources that you can access without having to pay for the courses. If you are undecided about which course is the perfect fit for you, they offer free trial classes with the online instructors so you can make an informed decision. I took advantage of this resource and immediately saw an increase in my score by 3 points because I applied their techniques to my studying.

    The books were very helpful and thorough and running through the problems and checking them against their explanations was very useful. The chapters explaining how to approach each section and test day strategies were also very useful.

    I appreciate the breakdown that the instructor does of the types of questions. Its very helpful to get into the minds of the test writers. Once you get a grasp of the types of questions, your more likely to do well. Also, I think this is one of the only test preps that works on reading comprehension.

    Manhattan Prep is a fantastic resource to prepare for the LSAT. I did the online interactive version and separate books were also mailed to me. It's a great resource because it truly helps you prepare for the LSAT and you can pace yourself, which works great if you are the type of person to be disciplined about your time. It's also not only an online version, but interactive, which keeps you engaged.

    Manhattan was the perfect combination of affordable, convenient, and effective. I wanted to do well on the LSAT, but I did not want to spend thousands of dollars on prep. Manhattan was priced very reasonably and had a lot of resources accessible from anywhere. I took the June LSAT and began studying right after finals in May. I really did not want to sit in a classroom for hours a day after just finishing classes. I enjoyed taking my course from anywhere I wanted and the flexibility to be comfortable while taking the course. I also liked how accessible the instructors were. If I had a question, it was relatively easy for me to get an answer in a timely fashion. The books and practice questions were well-tailored to the LSAT and prepared me well.

    • What law school application advice do you have for prospective students?: I recommend doing your research on schools and making sure the school you choose is right for you. Tour the schools if you have the ability to do so. Try to apply to schools that you can really see yourself at for three years. There are so many considerations when it comes to law school, but finding a school that you really like attending makes the actual law school process that much better. Challenge yourself to have a tangible reason for applying to each school, outside of rankings or job statistics. Those things should be considered, but they shouldn't be the only things you consider! Think about the location, proximity to your support system, the atmosphere of the campus, the kinds of student organizations they have, etc.

    Manhattan Prep seemed like a good investment, but in reality I had NO increase in my LSAT score after the intense online course. Wish I would get my money back, but oh well!

    I tried to do their online course modules but was overwhelmed and had trouble getting through it. I then paid for a private tutor, which I think was a lot better. Overall, I think there's a reason Manhattan Prep is ranked as highly as it is. However, it's also incredibly expensive. You pay for what you get, I suppose.

    I bought LSAT Interact (found a discount code with a Google search, too!) and I really genuinely enjoyed it. It was really helpful and informative, and I liked how I was able to go at my own pace. There is an online course, as well as a syllabus and multiple course books to help you cover each section. They also have many practice tests with every answer explained. It was incredibly helpful and I would recommend it to anyone. I bought LSAT Interact after already taking the LSAT for the first time, and by the time my retake rolled around my score had improved 8 points.

Have as many people proof read your personal statement as possible, because it plays a really important role, especially if your LSAT/GPA is average. Stay confident, you got this!

    Manhattan Prep LSAT Course was so helpful. I took the LSAT twice and jumped 5 points. All the practice and strategies that are offered are extremely helpful.

    Manhattan gives you all the techniques to improve your LSAT score. I took the class for three months, then studied on my own for three more months with the online tools that Manhattan gives you access to beyond the class. My score improved by 28 points and I’m at my dream law school!

    The books were easy to follow and I particularly liked the logic games section. Logic games was the hardest section for me and the numerous examples they had of them and the trucks they had to better visualize it in your head really helped me with that section.

    Initially, I self-studied with the Powerscore books and I performed decently well. During my second attempt, I opted to use the Manhattan books because they don't waste time covering the simpler aspects of the LSAT. If I could do it again, I would forego the Powerscore materials and go straight to Manhattan. Doing so lets you focus more on drilling and actual testing because the Manhattan books tend to be shorter (and way more "to the point) than the Powerscore books.

It is highly determinative of your application's success. In addition, try to get the best score as possible (even if you need to retake). Law school is important and demanding enough that you want to ensure that you are selecting the right program.

    The Manhattan series was great! It was very informative as to how to go about each section of the LSAT, and it had actual practice questions from prior exams as well! It was set up in a way to Pace your studying over the course of several months, and I did not feel overwhelmed by it at all! It greatly helped me achieve success and get a passing score the first time around!

No matter what school you choose to go to, the application process itself can be more stressful than the actual LSAT is! Keep a checklist of "To Do" and a checklist of "Done", and make sure you keep everything very neat and organized! Just dedicate an entire weekend to knocking most of it out at once so you don't get overwhelmed or behind in the process!

    Manhattan Prep is great (especially the 1-on-1 tutoring option that they have) but it is incredibly expensive. I purchased most of their books and tried to self-study for my first exam but opted to get a tutor for the second LSAT I took. The tutor was much more worth it than the books, in my opinion.

    Took the course in 2016; helpful strategies and good instructor. Would have preferred a more targeted system regarding the arguments and reading comp. Helped the most with games.
