About PowerScore LSAT

PowerScore was founded in 1997 by Dave Killoran.  His goal was to offer the highest quality test prep at the lowest price possible.  PowerScore LSAT offers a variety of ways to prepare for the LSAT such as in  person or online tutoring, as well as in classroom or one-on-one tutoring.  PowerScore LSAT also offers free access to the LSAT basics such as concepts various question explanations, and a few free lessons as well.  Students who are interested in finding out if PowerScore LSAT is the right fit are able to attend free webinars or in-person seminars, to learn more about the various programs offered.

 

Basics

PowerScore LSAT offers everything from self-study for one-on-one tutoring and pre-recorded to live in-person classes.  Students are paired with well-vetted instructors to help them conquer the LSAT.  The LSAT forum and LSAT blog allow students to interact with one another, and their instructors to get around the clock answer to any outstanding questions they may have.

    They are not transparent whatsoever about the amount of $ you spend versus what you get in return. I paid over $250 for study books, over $200 for workbooks, and another $40 for a testing and analytics package which they said was required during my study plan, only to find out you need an additional $120 subscription to access the analytics package. When I explained that to them over the phone, they refused to offer me a refund, even though the $40 I spent provided literally zero tangible items. I am really disgusted with this money pit, and their lack of customer service help when it comes to aiding students. I am now almost $500 in the hole, and they're still asking me for more money to access the things necessary to complete their "study plans". This service is a sham. Though it may provide positive study material, it is simply a money pit. I am really disappointed.

    I thought the LSAT Bibles were incredibly useful (especially for Logic Games). I also took their Live Online classes and the instructors were very knowledgeable and responsive to students' questions. My score went up by more than 5 points after using Powerscore's LSAT prep.

    The Bibles are incredible resources that allow you to truly understand not only the kinds of problems you will be asked, but the logic behind them. Pairing them with the course makes for a robust course experience.

    The PowerScore Bibles were super helpful to work through and learn all of the fundamentals before I began taking lots of practice tests!

    Instructors at PowerScore are great! They genuinely seem to care about their students' success. I love their webinars and podcasts, too. I love that the lessons and webinars are accessible to people with different abilities (some like to read text and others are more of listeners of spoken instructions).

Definitely ask questions because not all schools reviews applications exact same way. Many are looking for the right match, not just necessarily just the numbers like LSAT and GPA.

    I used the PowerScore books and I thought they were extremely thorough and helpful in my LSAT studying process. I used them in combination with the free practice tests on Khan Academy and thought it worked really well together! Would definitely recommend them to anyone starting to study for the LSAT!

    PowerScore was an integral piece of my LSAT prep. I used the books and online resources consistently and was able to raise my score significantly from my practice tests to my final LSAT score.     I used the PowerScore Logic Games and Logical Reasoning books, latest editions. The method is to teach you the various categories of questions that you can be asked, how to recognize what category a given question is, and then what to do based on what kind of category. I found this method useful for logic games, but overly tedious for logical reasoning. I think if you are not an intuitive person, then the category memorization will probably work great for you.

    I like this LSAT review course. I was able to move at my own pace and I was able to pay to extend my time when I took it a second time. I also liked how they introduced all the concepts. I did have to supplement some sections with books and online youtube videos. It helps to have a solid baseline and a course to hold you accountable.

    Powerscore helped me gain a baseline understanding of what was expected of me during the LSAT. I met with a private tutor through Powerscore who helped me narrow down the exact types of questions that were causing me the most trouble. I was able to focus on these questions and learn strategies to help solve them efficiently. I saw definite score improvements after using Powerscore.

    Great program, however I took away a star because you could alternatively just buy the books themselves and self-study, AND save money. I used the course since I was worried about disciplining myself, but I recommend self-studying since that's what you'll be doing in law school anyway. Very helpful for logic games in particular (I got a perfect score on that section and I owe it all to Powerscore).

    Powerscore does it better than anybody in the business -- particularly for logic games. If you feel self-motivated, you can work through the books yourself, the instruction is helpful though because other students in the class will raise questions helpful to your understanding. The books and the course together can feel repetitive.

    I used the 3 Power-score Bibles along with the workbooks. These resources provide good examples of LSAT questions. The bibles give a great explanation on how to answer each type of questions. Everything was broken down and easy to understand. I would suggest to use these books during the LSAT studying journey.

    Powerscore is phenomenal! I didn't expect to enjoy studying for the LSAT the way that I did. I purchased their trilogy books along with the workbooks. Not many test preps offer you a variety of full-length tests, drill tests, and sections tests in addition to a breakdown of your score. I was able to set goals on the site and at home and reach them with these books! Also, huge shoutout to the writer, Dave for being active on socials and providing many students with encouraging words and help as needed! Thankfully because of their help I got accepted into over 3 law schools, but ff I had to do this process over again, I would definitely dread it but not as much if power score is on my side.

    I have seen my scores improve significantly over time while using all three of the PowerScore books. I have looked around at other textbooks and I found that the PowerScore books were the easiest to digest. I also bought the workbooks and will start tackling those soon. I have also really enjoyed listening to the podcast. They have some really helpful tips for navigating through the process.

    I used the PowerScore Bibles and they were very helpful; the information was laid out clearly, the explanations were thorough, and this was an overall great tool for self-study. I also listened to a the PowerScore LSAT PodCast (with Dave Killoran and Jon Denning) which was super insightful and quite entertaining. These guys have a good pulse on all things LSAT.     What made the difference for me was having a prep course teacher who cared that we really understood the material. I credit taking the Powerscore course with being the reason I was able to get into my top choice school. As an older student who is working full-time and going to school at night, I need to be efficient. Powerscore class started and ended on time, and stayed focused the whole time.

    I was working full time 50-60 hour weeks so I didn’t have the time to do a course or private tutor. I bought all the PowerScore books and self studied. The books are so easy to read and self explanatory that self study wasn’t as daunting as I imagined. I did WAY better on my LSAT than I imagined and even got multiple scholarships at different law schools across the country!

    I used the On Demand online PowerScore course to study for the first time I took the LSAT. It was a really helpful primer to get me acclimated to how the LSAT worked. This course worked well with my schedule, as I could watch the lectures and do practice questions on my own time. I would recommend to only use this course if you can keep yourself on track without an outside force (like a teacher or a tutor). I was fairly motivated to keep myself on a strict schedule, but if I had fallen off of that, it would have been really hard to keep up with the course. From my initial diagnostics to my final (real) score, I increased about 14 points.

    PowerScore was an incredibly useful way to prepare for the LSAT. The way each "bible" (logic reasoning, reading comprehension and logic games) were articulated helped me really understand what each topic was asking for and how best to attack these sections. They are written well and each section is broken down effectively for you to be as efficient with your time as possible while studying.

    I first attempted the in person class here in NYC, the format did not work for me. The class was very long and after a long school day it was not ideal. The course also moves very very quickly. I then requested a transfer into the online class where I was able to actively ask questions to a second teacher, replay lessons and utilize the portal more. I then took advantage of power score's tutor service. I was linked up with a girl who was a 3L at my dream school and she was very helpful in assisting me with my problem areas.

    The PowerScore LSAT Course was extremely helpful for me in the law school application process, especially since I had a low undergraduate GPA. It especially helped with logic games, where I gained a huge improvement over my diagnostic test. I was fortunate to be strong in the other categories due to my philosophy degree setting me up well for them, but the course was still extremely effective in filling in the holes that I had left.

    The course was interactive and highly informative. I took the in-person course and although it seemed long at times, my teacher was very helpful and seemed to care about the students. My class consisted of around 8 people and lasted approximately 3 hours each night. We broke down how to read test questions and answers were thoroughly explained. I really appreciated the class for giving me a structure to study for the LSAT!

    I paid for the online course and have to admit it was well worth it. The materials are well structured, the tutors (Nick and Jeremy) are the best and there are many materials. From recorded classes, prep books, drills and LSAT clinics. Since the materials are well structured, it is hard to feel tired or burnt out. It is also easy to track the progress. I would vouch for them anytime!

    Powerscore's preparatory courses proved to be invaluable in my experience. The bibles and workbooks worked together in perfect harmony - after the fundamentals of the bibles are mastered, the workbooks cement the different processes learned. Also, on a note that is separate from the didactic portion of Powerscore, they have superb turnaround time on distributing their books. My experience epitomizes this: living in Juneau, Alaska many vendors either don't ship to my location or ship items in a manner that results in long periods of latency between shipment of the goods and receipt of the goods - this resolutely was not the case with Powerscore. When combining Powerscore's excellent distribution channels, customer service, and product, you will not find yourself rebuking your choice to select them as your LSAT prep course.

    • What law school application advice do you have for prospective students?: It is integral for both personal stress levels and planning for future needs to apply to schools as soon in the application period that you feasibly can. Different law schools have different formulae that they use to select their pool of admitted students; give yourself the maximum amount of time for their formulas to compare you to other students. It is not always the case, but in the law school application process it seems to ring true, that casting your net early results in the largest catch.

    Taking part in PowerScore’s online LSAT prep course last fall was an undoubted boon to my test preparations process. The course was run more smoothly than several online university courses I have taken part in. Like any LSAT prep activity, the amount of benefit one receives ends up commensurate with their level of participation.“Teacher Nick” was fantastic, as were the assistant moderators. All showed an enthusiastic energy for the material they covered and answered student questions descriptively. The sense of humor imbued made the hours fly by, as we delved deeper into LSAT strategies. The course quickly adapted to the particular needs of its group of students, to emphasize certain thorny question types and test sections. I would suggest that someone whose main challenge with the LSAT is the Reading Comprehension section to perhaps search for assistance elsewhere, as this section was only tangentially covered.If fate were to cause me to take the LSAT again, I would not hesitate to re-enroll in PowerScore’s online prep course.

    I had quite the journey finding the right fit for my LSAT prep and undoubtedly PowerScore was the best decision. My experience started by paying over $1200 for an in person prep class that left me feeling confused and unprepared once the LSAT rolled around. After doing research online, I found PowerScore and saw how great their reviews were. I immediately ordered their books and I wished I had sooner! It was incredibly comprehensive, and broke down concepts in such a way that allowed me to truly learn them-- and at my own pace! My second time around taking my LSAT I felt much more prepared, confident, and ultimately did better. I would 10/10 recommend!

    • What law school application advice do you have for prospective students?: Start early!! I would recommend starting to think about schools that would best suit you around a year in advance. Once you do, research their admission statistics to see if they're in your ball park, so when September 1 rolls around you have your list together of definite schools! I would also recommend to ask for your letters of recommendation EARLY! You don't want to be in a position where your application is ready to be sent but are still waiting on letters to make the application complete.

    For my LSAT prep I used two of the powerscore books. I used the logical reasoning and logic games books. I found both the books to very helpful. The books allowed for me to learn the step by step process to build my foundation when answering these questions. I found the methods of strategy to be successful. Also, I appreciated the book form of their teachings because I learn better when reading the materials at my ow pass. Furthermore, I found it easy to organize my study with these books. Since the books were split into sections I was able to base my study duration on the sections. Overall, I think Powerscore was a very useful tool when studying for the LSAT.

    I completed the Accelerated course online for two weeks, as I have two children under 2 that prevents me from taking the course live. I found that the course really helped me better understand what the LSAT requires of me and what to expect with each section of the test. I took the LSAT once before and am only needing 7 more points to be considered for a full-tuition scholarship. I take the test again in a month. I feel that the online accelerated course will help improve my score to where I need it, or possibly exceed that. The only downside was that I did feel the rush of the course when I fell a little behind on "homework".

    The PowerScore Bibles were the foundation of my preparation for the LSAT. Working through the entirety of the Logical Reasoning text was instrumental in my understanding of the way LSAC uses certain phrasing and language to create tricky questions. Mastering each type of question is straightforward in the way the information is presented with each question type receiving its own chapter. Additionally, concepts that are tested over a variety of question types, such as conditional reasoning or causal reasoning, receive in-depth discussion in their own chapters. The Logic Games text is similarly structured with different types of games each receiving chapters discussing them. The first several chapters focusing on grouping and linear games are essential to understanding how to approach the Analytical Reasoning Section of the LSAT.

    This prep course was good, but it was not nearly as good as the other courses in my opinion. I took my first test with Powerscore and didn't feel that I had a great grasp on all of the material. I did, however, think they had a strength with their logic games. I ended up using a different prep course the second time around, and did much better. In general, the course seems to be a bit drier than it needs to be. It also sometimes spends too much time on unimportant areas of the test, and not enough time on the more important parts. I highly recommend reading the Bibles, though.

    My score increased from 158 before the PowerScore class to 168. The result was that I got into the school I wanted and was awarded a scholarship that will give me a 30x ROI from the financial investment I made in the PowerScore course. This review is based on my own personal experiences and naturally different people have different experiences and preferences regarding LSAT preparation.In my case I was hesitant to take a course at first, because most people online seemed to be advocating for self-study, said LSAT was the test you couldn't study for, etc. Like most students I am a cheapskate that is not eager to part with my money. I had skimmed books on the LSAT from the library, read online guides, watched YouTube videos from actual prep courses, and took practice tests, but my score was holding steady at 158 on two practice tests and the actual. This wasn't high enough to get into the school I wanted.I signed up for the online-only version of the PowerScore prep course, because it was cheaper, more flexible from a scheduling perspective, and the sales rep said both online and in-person students have the same average increase in their LSAT score.PowerScore's suite of services, resources and tools was really impressive. Every class is recorded and I ended up watching the recorded version about half the time. They send you a stack of books filled with drills, instruction and old LSAT tests. They have a forum where you can ask questions and get a prompt response, as well as a homework hotline. They have four practice tests (I wish they had more setup this way), where you can post your answers online and it will analyze your practice test, telling you which types of problems you are having a hard time with. About halfway through the class I knew all I really needed to study was the analytical reasoning section and "compare the reasoning" type questions from the logical reasoning section, so I only did those drills.In my case my score was not improving through self-study, but did with PowerScore's resources. The result was getting admitted to the school I wanted and a scholarship for more than 30x what I paid for the course. I give them 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to anyone trying to get into a highly-ranked school. However, do keep in mind that they only provide a suite of resources, which includes hundreds of pages of drills and instruction. Studying for the LSAT was like a full-time job!I spent a lot of time researching different LSAT prep courses before picking PowerScore and figured I could save the next person some time. I settled on PowerScore because the books are thorough enough for self-study - I didn't have to take a course online or in person. I bought all 3 PowerScore sections. I had an old LSAT prep book from Kaplan for logic games, but the way that PowerScore walks you through how to approach logic games is much more intuitive and practical. I am so glad I did my research and bought PowerScore, as I don't think I'd have done as well without it.

    The PowerScore bibles helped me gain 7 points in my LSAT score from my first practice test to the real thing. Their system is easy to follow (I studied on my own), rigorous, and comprehensive. They do a great job of dissecting questions into elements so you know exactly how to frame your strategy for answering just about every type of LSAT question you can imagine. The creators have done extensive research on LSAT questions from tests as far back as the 80's and as recent as a few years ago, so they not only understand the logic necessary to succeed on the LSAT, but they understand the specific challenges you will encounter when you take the test. This knowledge is crucial for success. I also used the practice books associated with the bibles, which I highly recommend, though these are not included with your purchase of the books. In total, these resources are more expensive than other companies, but they are 100% worth the price. I did not anticipate getting the score I did, and I attribute my performance to PowerScore.

    I did an online course through PowerScore. The online option was very convenient since I didn't have to commute to a class and could do them from home and their online class portal was very easy to use. I also thought the instructor was great at explaining things, particularly logic games that were harder to understand just by reading a book description.The companion books to the program were also very helpful and gave you a ton of sample questions to work through as practice for the real test.

Before working through each book, I was experiencing significant difficulty with logic games and the logical reasoning sections. After working through each one, however, I found myself excelling in both sections. The PowerScore Bibles are easy to understand and offer great advice throughout. I would recommend reading every word and taking every practice test inside the books - they are helpful and they tie everything together. Do not get discouraged if you struggle through the book; I struggled, but once I found myself taking the practice tests everything pulled together.

    Powerscore's LSAT prep course was amazing. For my preparation I purchased the LSAT Bible Trilogy and got in contact with a private tutor through their service. The books themselves are extremely helpful and explain the process step by step! When asking how to get a tutor, they told me to fill out a small survey where they asked where you live and how far you want to travel. With that information, they match you with a powerscore tutor in your area. Personally, I found the private tutor amazing. They are extremely flexible with your schedule and are patient when teaching you the information. I have bad testing anxiety and I told my tutor. Instead of giving up on me, he worked with me and made sure I knew the content before moving on! I highly recommend PowerScore!

I took a class by a different company that barely touched the surface of what David taught in his Power Score Bible books. They are so detailed and meticulously go through everything you need to know.     I started out with the Kaplan test book and still was scoring about the same as my base. I then put in the investment and ordered all three of the PowerScore Bibles plus the workbooks. These books really helped me, especially in logic games. There were drills and exercises in the workbooks that took apart each section of the question to help you get through the sections quicker on test day. If you don't want to spend as much money, just stick with the logic games or logical reasoning books to start with. My score went up 15 points from my first test. Totally worth the time and money that it takes to get through these books

    First I used the PowerScore Bibles and self study and earned a good score. I knew that I needed a higher score to get into my reach schools and negotiate scholarships, so I decided to take a class. I took the live in-person class. They sent me the Bibles again as my course books, which was frustrating only because I had already paid for them once, but I think they were different than the books I had already completed (maybe I used an older edition, which I highly recommend self-studiers to because it's cheaper and not significantly different). The instructor answered my questions pretty well, but I often had to go up after class was over to clarify his answers. I was trying to improve upon an already pretty high score, so it seemed like I was asking more nuanced questions than the other students. In the end, I scored 8 points higher the second time I took the LSAT after the in-person class.

Some people don't learn that well from lectures, so they shouldn't pay the exorbitant price that it costs. Schools care much more in my opinion about the LSAT than your gpa, especially considering the fact that a lot can happen in undergrad. The LSAT is a concentrated effort, and that effort should mirror what you'd be capable of in law school, even if the material does not.

    Powerscore books and workbooks increased my initial assessment score of 142 to 159 on the actual LSAT. Logical Reasoning and Logic Games book were the best out of the 3, and it was great to have all the practice problems in the workbooks as well.     I didn't use the course, but I used the books and a tutor through powerscore and both were great. The books break things down in a simple and easy to understand way and honestly gives you everything you need to know. I highly recommend them.
